11 ways to open a locked car door from the inside

by otosok October 3, 2020
by otosok

A common thing that often happens to our cars is a car key that is left inside. What was more troublesome was that we couldn’t enter because the car door was locked too. This accidental condition is obviously troublesome, because we are forced to break down our own car doors. If this condition happens to you, then you will definitely be annoyed and upset. You also can’t blame other people when the car door is locked from the inside, because that’s his fault.

There are several ways we can practice to open a car door that is locked from the inside. When doing this method, we must be extra patient and not panic. No need to rush to call a locksmith, we can get back to the car.

When the car door is locked from the inside, a special trick is needed if all the windows are tightly closed without gaps. Moreover, central lock technology makes it impossible for us to enter through the middle door because everything is locked automatically. This way of opening the door is easier on a conventional lock system than without a key.

The key condition that is still left in the cabin is not unusual. Not infrequently, car doors close suddenly and then lock when the car is parked or repaired. For example, we are opening the hood to install the battery, the door suddenly closes due to a jolt or car movement during installation.

In a subtle way, we also don’t have to damage the windshield. The old-fashioned way of breaking a windshield sure works, but it also adds to the big disadvantages. We have to replace the broken glass, besides that the wind also directly enters the cabin, making the trip uncomfortable.

At least, there are three ways that you think are quite effective and proven to be successful in opening a locked car door. This method is also used by car repair shops in the event of a similar condition during repair.

Even though you already know some of these methods, you shouldn’t be careless and get used to removing or carrying keys when getting out of the car.

Quoting from various sources, the following is a guide on how to open a car that is locked from the inside that you can try:

1. Use a coat hanger

How to open a car door using a coat hanger, Use a clothes hanger or hanger made of aluminum, you can try opening a locked car door. It is suitable for vehicles with manual locks.

The trick, first straighten the coat hanger. Bend one end of the wire that acts as a hook about 3cm to 5cm. Insert the gap between the window and door seal that covers and protects the window in the car door.

Note that you may need to slide the cable a few inches down so you can feel the end of the hook as it slides through the window. Turn the hook so that it points toward the car.

The locking lever mechanism is parallel to the car door, so you need to turn the hook 90 degrees to ensure that it is perpendicular to the lock lever and accessible.

Movement of the hook to catch the lock lever. This section is not something you can calculate with certainty and it really depends on the type of car.

You need to move the latch around the door to reach the lock lever. The position of the locking lever may actually be slightly behind the car keyhole, so insert the cable a few inches behind the manual lock position.

In this position, you will see the lock lever move and wiggle when it touches the lock lever. So keep trying until it moves.

After feeling the hook has caught the lock lever and saw it move, then immediately pull it up to open the car door. Do it several times until it really works.

2. Using shoelaces or plastic laces

How to open a car door using a rope, the next way to open a locked car door is to use a rope. Get a strong strap that won’t break easily when you stretch it.

One example you can use shoelaces. Make a small, tight knot, and slip it through the small gap in the doorway. Slide until you reach the inside of the car. Attach the knot to the car key and pull gently. Be careful when pulling the lever so that it doesn’t break.

If using a plastic strap, it’s easy to fold it, then insert it into the gaps in the car door. Lift the key, and the door will open. Easy right?

Be careful, because this is how a thief can open a key without a key!

3 Using a tennis ball

This less common method can only be performed on cars with conventional keys. This means that there is still a keyhole on the car door. The punched tennis ball acts as a pump to push air into the lock.

As an anticipation, you can prepare this simple tool. Get a tennis ball, then make a small hole deep enough. To make a hole, simply pierce a tennis ball using a screwdriver heated by fire from the stove or a match.

A hot screwdriver makes the surface of the tennis ball softer when punched. Poke gently until the screwdriver slides into the cavity of the tennis ball. Well, only one hole is made because we will take advantage of the air push from the cavity of the tennis ball.

To practice this, aim the hole in the tennis ball directly in front of the keyhole. Press quickly and with all your strength until the tennis ball is leveled. Make sure the air gets into the tennis ball and presses firmly into the door opening.

If the lock still fails to open, repeat these steps. Press the tennis ball with stronger and faster pressure, making sure that the air hole is completely into the keyhole. The enormous and fast air pressure from inside the tennis ball moves the mechanical components into the keyhole.

This push allows the door lock connector to move and finally open. The important point is that you should always have a punched tennis ball or iron ruler on hand in anticipation.

4. Prying out the middle door latch

Car keys because they have a small shape, are very vulnerable to being lost or left behind. It is not uncommon for people to forget, to take a car key whose position still depends on the starter contact or on the console for the keyless one.

The next way that you can practice is by opening the middle door. This method is usually done in the workshop on the twins Avanza and Xenia. It doesn’t have to be from the front door, we can also work around this with another, easier door.

Open the rear right door seal rubber, do not fold it because it will be damaged. Then, take a peek between the glass and the body, inside there will be an iron attached to the plastic which is positioned below the door lock button. The white plastic connects the iron from the hook with the lock on the side of the door.

5. Using a stalk or iron

To unlock an automatic car, you can open a little gap at the top of the door then use a long handle. iron wire serves to push the lock button.

Slightly open the top door so that there is an opening to insert the metal wire. Once open, wedge with the object that has been prepared, then insert the stick used to press the button.

Use a small, bent end wire as a hook. This wire should be at least 20 cm long. Insert the wire between the door divider and the window in the rubber lining. Slide the wire until it touches the hook lever that is used to open the car door.

Pull up on the hook slowly and don’t force it. If you see the lock lever moving or a clacking sound it means the door is unlocked. This hook hook is very easy and light, so if it is hard it means it is a wrong pull.

6. Using a metal ruler or spatula

Another way you can do to be able to open a locked door from the inside is to break it using a slim metal ruler. This method can also be used on cars that are already keyless technology. However, it’s best to be careful when inserting the ruler, so as not to hit the wires behind the door.

First, remove the bottom rubber side of the glass first to insert the ruler into the lock hook easily. Take it easy, the rubber on the windshield is very easy to remove and then put back in.

Next, insert a ruler into the inside of the door glass opening, about 60 to 80 cm deep. Slide and feel the key panel points by seeing the movement of the lock panel. Press on the door handle, look for a kind of rod that when pressed by a ruler can move up and down elastic like a spring.

If you have found it, just press the hard rod while pulling the door handle. If it doesn’t work, repeat the steps that pressed the springy rod. It takes patience as well as a perfect trick to be able to do the method above.

7. Using a screwdriver and poke

To use this method you have to be careful, because screwdrivers can damage the interior and exterior of your car. use a screwdriver to make enough room for you to insert a small scribe, then use this scribe to pull the key.

8. Using an inflatable wedge

This method uses the same method as a screwdriver, except that it uses air to open the door. With this tool you can open a car door in a minute.

The good thing about this tool is that it doesn’t break, like when you open it with a screwdriver, the bad thing is that it is quite expensive.

9. Use a professional unlock tool

If you can use this tool well, you should use it to open your car door. Of course it will be faster and cheaper.

10. Contact a car service provider

If you are confused and the easy way is that you can contact a car assistance company, they will of course send someone to help you.

11. Contact a locksmith

Usually they are expert locksmiths that might be an option, because they are quite experienced and have the ability to quickly and precisely unlock a locked car.

Well, quite a lot of ways, right? You just choose the most appropriate. So, you no longer have to worry when the door is locked and the key is left inside. Indeed, the consequences of forgetting to bring your car keys are quite troublesome and annoying.

For those of you who have never experienced the problem of a car door being locked from the inside, it would be nice to anticipate it by first trying this trick in the garage. Make sure, unplug the car key first just in case the trick fails.

Lock the car door from the outside then try one of the tricks above to experiment with in your spare time. If you have done this before, then you can help others if a similar problem occurs.

The process of opening a car door that is locked from the inside sometimes takes a long time. So you need to be careful and careful not to damage the inside of the car door and the cables behind the door. And don’t forget, always be on the lookout for the consequences of mistakes that occur.
