Rows of Parts To Improve Handling Performance

Changing the appearance and increasing the handling performance of the car are usually the 2 main reasons for car owners to modify the legs of their car. Often changing wheels and tires on a car is the owner’s first step in starting a series of modifications to that section.

However, to get the desired results and performance, simply changing the wheels and tires is of course far from sufficient. Maybe based on the appearance of the car you have seen a significant improvement by simply changing the wheels, but what about the vehicle handling performance?

The following is a list of a series of modified parts for the legs of the Intersport Men’s car that will add to the car’s handling performance like a racing car that is ready to maneuver and devour high speeds.

Suspension

The use of a Coilover or a complete Coil Spring Over Shock Absorber is an upgrade that is widely used by automotive enthusiasts to increase handling performance in their cars. Coilover is popular because it has a number of settings that allow each car owner to get a setting that suits his needs.

Compared to the conventional suspension system, namely the spring suspension, this suspension has several advantages and disadvantages. Responding to these differences will ultimately return to our modification purposes / needs. Some people just want to just lower their car’s ground clearance , some others want to be able to adjust the height of their car, adjust the camber , and so on.

Coilover advantages

  • Have a setting how low the suspension we want.
  • Some types have a feature to adjust the hardness or softness of the shock.
  • Some other types are equipped with a camber kit to adjust the camber.
  • Has various types and types according to the needs of car use such as street performance, race, comfort, dirt, ultra-low , and others.
  • If damaged it can be serviced ( rebuilt ).

Disadvantages of Coilover

  • Even though this coilover can actually be serviced or rebuilt , it is still difficult for us to find a spare part seller or repair service. Damage to a coilover often means we have to buy a replacement set.
  • Arrangements that require more time and effort. We have to jack the car and open the tires to adjust the height and low of the suspension.
  • The price is far above the suspension per standard (factory default)

Sway & Strut Bar

The function of the Sway Bar is to keep both sides of the wheel at the same height and to keep the torsional rigidity of the lower legs the same. So that the symptoms of body roll that are usually found in factory standard car conditions will decrease or even disappear.

This also affects the handling of the car which will increase because the car feels more rigid when maneuvering.

A strut bar   (also known as a strut tower bar or strut brace ) is designed to tie two opposing tower struts together into one solid unit. The purpose of the strut bar is to reduce the flex experienced during hard cornering. When maneuvering, the car’s shockbreaker tower will usually flex and cause body flex and loss of traction.

Tire Alignment Kit

Adjustments to the vehicle suspension through a system that connects the car to the wheels. The function of tire alignment itself is to adjust the angle of the tire which affects the way the tire touches the road.

Tire Alignment itself has 3 types of fitments that are commonly used, namely:

  • Camber

Camber is the angle on the wheel which is measured by looking at the wheel from the front. If the top wheel is inclined outward from the center line on the vertical axis, this is called positive camber . Vice versa, if the top of the wheel is inclined inward, this condition is called negative camber . When applying camber , this will make one side of the wheel more often in contact with the road than the other side so that it will accelerate the wear process on that side of the wheel. For example, when the camber is too negative, the inner side of the wheel is more often in contact with the road so that the side wears faster than the outside.

  • Caster

When turning the steering wheel, the front wheels will respond to the movement on a pivot that hits the suspension system. The caster angle is measured by looking from the side of the vehicle. If the top of the pedestal is inclined towards the back then this condition is called a positive caster . And vice versa for negative casters . If there is a difference in the caster on the wheel between the left and right wheels for the car, the vehicle will pull towards the smallest positive caster angle . If the casters are the same but too negative then the steering will be very light and the vehicle will be more difficult to maintain in a straight line. If casterit is the same but too positive, the steering will be heavier but it’s easier to keep the position straight.

  • Toe in & Out

Unlike caster and camber, which are measured in degrees, toe is more commonly measured in inches. Toe measurement really depends on the measuring instrument used. Errors in toe adjustment are a major factor in wheel wear. For the front and rear wheels, toe is still in the same definition. Toe is the difference between the leading edge (front) and trailing edge (rear) of the wheel.

Toe-in is where the front is closer than the back. And the opposite is true for toe-out . However, when the vehicle is in a moving position, the bending of the linkage components will change the alignment at rest. This can be called “Running Toe”. Keep the Running Toe as minimal as possible to increase wheel life and reduce rolling resistance .

Of the three alignment options above, Men Intersport can adjust their respective needs that best suit the performance and appearance criteria they have.

Arm Bushing

Arm Bushing is a component in a car that functions to connect the arm to the chassis so that there is no contact between metals. Usually arm bushing uses rubber material which is good enough to reduce vibrations, but as we know, rubber has properties that decrease in density over time.

Therefore, many aftermarket companies have replaced materials that are sturdier and harder. Because the harder the material the car uses, the stiffer or stiffer it will feel. In addition, with a stiffer material, it can minimize maintenance on the vehicle. No wonder racing cars often use Teflon or Polyurethane for this part .

Keep in mind that the parts above have their respective levels of difficulty in installation, it’s good to find a repair shop that already has a good reputation to be able to implement this modification. Because the legs in the car are a fatal part if something goes wrong and will have a direct impact on driving safety and comfort.
