Since the name MG was taken over by a Chinese conglomerate company, SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, this legendary manufacturer has focused more on producing SUVs,crossovers, hatchbacksand other passenger cars. But recently, MG stated that they will launch anelectric-drivensports carin 2021. So what has been known so far? Let’s discuss it.
According to an article from the 9 December 2020 issue of the automotive magazine Autocar, MG will release its EV sports car in 2021. Hearing this news is certainly quite surprising, because finally MG returned to producing sports cars for mass consumers in its heyday in the mid-20th century with cars like the MGB and MG Midget. MG’s newest sports car will be based on their concept car which was introduced at the Shanghai Motorshow in 2017. The concept itself shows a car that has elegant lines but still has a sporty impression typical of MG.
However, it is likely that the butterfly doors will not enter the production stage due to the high cost and complexity. So if it’s a matter of performance, MG is chasing 0-100 km / h in under four seconds and the battery mileage is 482 km. If they really do manage to reach these numbers, MG’s sports car will face off against names like the Porsche Taycan 4S and Tesla Model 3 Performance. Unfortunately, MG has not released information about prices or technology that will be included in the newest sports car ev .
However, one thing that is known is that if it is to be released in 2021, MG’s newest sports car will be the second EV in the British manufacturer’s lineup along with the MG ZS EV. What do you think about MG’s newest sports car? Can he face and give competition to other EV sports cars such as the Tesla and Porsche?
